Morocco

Sorry for the lack of posts but we have had Justin's family in town since the end of May and have not had a chance to post some of the pictures of our travels during their visit. We went to Morocco the first weekend in June on an overnight trip. We had zero to low expectations of Tanger and were pretty impressed after our one day walking tour and overnight stay in a hotel. The town is a little dirty as a third world place would be but quite pretty in its own way and the people were very friendly. We did not know that Tanger is actually a mix of Muslims, Christians and Jews all living harmoniously together. They do not have the problems that other Muslim countries do which made us feel quite safer. Many Muslim women do not even wear the full dress or head scarves. We decided to follow the customs and dressed conservatively for our tour of the city. We took a ferry across the Strait of Gibraltar from Tarifa, Spain to Tanger. When we arrived in the city, our private guide was waiting to take us on an all day walking tour of the old parts of the city. We finished the day at the Hotel Tariq where we enjoyed ocean front hotel rooms. A wonderful and eye-opening experience. And we can say we have been to Africa!

O and I enjoying our trip on the ferry. O's Uncle Aaron is sitting behind us.

We are enjoying our traditional Moroccan lunch. We only ate the food that was cooked. And still O and I got sick:(

The Moroccan band that entertained us during lunch. They were awesome!

Hokey I know but who doesn't like the cliched snake charming? Although we were convinced that the cobra was de-fanged. And then the old guy came around to put the snakes around our neck. No thank you.

A typical Moroccan street scene.

This old man was selling bread from the locals in the Kasbah. The Kasbah is the oldest part of the city and many places inside do not have running water in their homes. This baker is considered the one to ask if you are looking for someone. Since he sells everyone's bread, he knows all the people in his area and where they live.

Morocco has a king who has really modernized the country. They love him. Here is a picture of a guesthouse for anyone visiting him while he is in Tanger. We missed his visit to Tanger by one week.

In front of one of the many Mosques in the city.

Justin and O in front of the courthouse. We got that backpack from my sis and bro-in-law and it was a god send in Morocco. O loved it and we didn't have to try and stroller her around the city.

Our niece and O's cousin Anna standing on the balcony of their hotel room. Beautiful view and the hotel cost us about $45USD! Never would you get this view in the US for so cheap.

All of us in front of the hotel waiting to head back to Spain. L-R: Justin, his sis Sarah, me and O, his mom, our niece Allison, his bro-in-law Aaron and our other niece Anna.

This was the view from our hotel room. It was an awesome view of the water and Tanger.

I know- a month is waaay too long. And thanks for that backpack-it is so needed in Europe. The streets and sites are not stroller friendly here.
