London

I was able to leave for a quick 2 day trip to London over Memorial Day weekend. My childhood friend, Leah, lives there and another one of our childhood friends, Jean, was flying through on business. We met on Saturday at Leah's flat and had a great afternoon catching up and then a wonderful Indian dinner. Jean had to leave on Sunday but I was lucky enough to stay another day and see some famous London sites.

I took a black cab from the train station to Leah's flat. The cabby was awesome and let me get a picture in the driver's seat of his cab. It is parked outside of Leah's building.

Here we are in Leah's flat before dinner. Jean is next to me and Leah is on the right. We have all known each other since about 4th grade and have been through all the childhood growing pains together.

After dinner, we stopped at the Mandarin Hotel bar for some wine and great reminiscing of grade school and high school.

London had beautiful weather on Sunday. A perfect day to sight-see. Here I am in front of Kensington Palace where Princess Diana lived after the divorce. Not a bad settlement!

The 3 amigas before Jean had to leave for her flight.

Kensington Gardens has to have some of the most beautiful trees and flowers I have ever seen. It puts my front patio to shame.

Big Ben. It's big.

As you can tell, everyone was out sightseeing. Here I am posing on the street opposite Big Ben.

Westminster Abbey. It was closed for touring but open for church services so we went to one so I could see the inside. No pun intended but it really was a religious experience for me sitting in that service. The choir brought tears to my eyes-they sung so beautifully. I felt like I was living in the middle ages listening to their singing.

I'm the little speck in the left hand corner standing in front of the towers of the Abbey.

British Parliament on the Thames River. Looks like a security nightmare to me...

After our dinner on Sunday night, Leah and Derek brought me to a local pub for a hand pumped ale. I chose London Pride and enjoyed my first true British ale. A wonderful way to end my quick but amazing trip!
