Our next port was Athens, Greece. Justin and I went into Athens alone for an 8 hour tour with a private tour guide and taxi. We did not want to take O on that long of an excursion in the hot sun with the constant in-and-out of the car to see the sights. O stayed on the ship with Justin's parents who have seen Athens twice before and opted to just relax for the day on a quiet ship. It was wonderful to just go with Justin and explore Athens. It was so great to see how much Justin was enjoying himself among the sights. He loves Greek history and it has been his goal to get to ancient Greece and Athens was a fantastic place to see it.
Okay. Last pic of the Parthenon. This is THE thing to see in Athens so we took a lot of pics from all sides.
For my Zeta ladies.
Justin going native as we head down to the ancient Theatre of Dionysus.
Justin standing at the remains of the Temple of Zeus with a view of the Parthenon on the hill in the background. Athens has Greek ruins just hanging around all over the city.
Justin in front of the 1896 Olympic stadium. The site of the first modern Olympiad.
Our tour guide wanted a "fun" picture of us together so Justin dipped me in front of the Parliament building and the Greek Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
A soldier of the Greek ceremonial guard. You could get right up close to them as they did the changing of the guard. Their outfits were so heavy and it was blazing hot outside.
A soldier marching in front of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. I could not take this march seriously. It was so crazy looking. I had the Oompa Loompa song from Willy Wonka running through my head the whole time. But the frieze on the wall in front of him depicting an ancient Greek soldier in death was so cool.
The end of the day. Our tour guide took us to a high point in Athens to get a view of the whole city. A great end to a perfect day with Justin.
