Olivia's School Souvenir

Brace yourself for this story...

So our day started out as any other. I dropped O off at her pre-school and went to run errands in preparation for my best friend from college, Katie and her husband, Brian who are arriving tomorrow. Then I get a call from the school at 11am on my way back from the Spanish grocery store. O tripped and hit the edge of the bookcase. She's bleeding and I need to come pick her up and take her to the ER to have it looked at just to make sure. I am not sweating a thing. Big deal; face bleeds are always worse than what they actually are. I pick her up, the bleeding is pretty minimal but she definitely has a cut. I take her to the ER and things are going relatively smoothly until she absolutely goes balistic when the corpsmen wants to clean her cut. I mean she is hysterical. We are holding her down and I am getting drenched with water and she is starting to bleed more. The ER doc had originally only wanted to dermabond the cut bet then decides that O is going to need stitches instead to minimize the chance of a scar. BUT she has to be sedated because she is hysterical. By now, it is after 12pm. We wait for the anasthesiologist to arrive and he asks when and what she ate for breakfast. He can sedate her only after it has been 8 hours since she last ate. So this means we have to come back in the late afternoon to sedate her and stitch her. Soooo I take her home with a gauze bandage over the cut, fight her to take a nap, and she finally falls asleep 40 minutes before we are supposed to leave for the ER.
We arrive at 3:30pm and they take her back and the anasthesiologist explains what he is going to give her. It will only last for about 20 minutes and she will be awake but in a twilight. She of course starts getting hysterical again and he gives her the shot fast. Now this is where it gets too traumatic for me, her mother. I am holding her as the drugs start to take effect. She slowly quiets and goes limp. I lay her down and she is completely limp but her eyes are wide open and unmoving. This is the most horrible sight I have ever experienced and I NEVER want to see her like that again. I have to leave the room, I am so upset. I compose myself in the hall and come back in to them stitching her up and Justin holding her hand.
She slowly wakes up and is completely out of it which actually was really funny. She is saying the funniest things. At this point, it is 4:30 and we can leave the ER at 5pm. At 4:55, we are ready to walk out the door when the nurse stops us and asks if O has been red in the face the whole time. No she has not and we all soon realize she is having some sort of allergic reaction to something they gave her. Soooo we have to give her benadryl as her face gets all red and splotchy and she has to stay and continue to be monitored to ensure her throat does not close up due to the reaction. So we finally leave the hospital at 6pm with O awake, no more red splotches and tired, traumatized and famished parents. (Neither Justin, O or I had ever eaten lunch). Below are the pics of Olivia's souvenir. 6 stitches but she should not have a scar! The stitches will be removed in 1 week. Can't wait for that appointment....
