I Have a Dream...

We have now witnessed history. What an incredible day for our country. No matter your political affiliation, we can now put to rest some terrible memories of the past. Martin Luther King Jr. is smiling somewhere...and for good reason. Congratulations to all the people who worked so hard for this during the Civil Rights movement. Your dreams have finally come true. I am so proud to be an American right now.
BTW-Feb. 12, 2009 is the 200th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birth. A man who, in his own way, transformed the country's way of thinking about slavery and equality. How fitting for an African-American to be president at this time. How far we have come...

It's really moving isn't it? While I'm living out of country (and you will be soon too)... I'm feeling optimistic about things for the first time in awhile for the place we call "home".
Miss you guys.

They said tonight on CNN that at 11:00e back in the day that lincoln had signed the Emancipation Proclomation. It was 11:00e that they declared Obama the winner. I just thought that was cool.

Love you, anna

Anna,
I hope this election has inspired you as much as it has many in the nation. I told Justin I was sad that you guys were six months shy of turning 18 so that you could have participated. When I turned 18, the first thing I did was go to the village hall and register to vote (no joke-i really did). My parents instilled in me a strong sense of civic responsibility. I know we in the family have in some way instilled that in you too but I also hope the events of the last few days have inspired your generation to engage in civics but also realize that ANYTHING is possible. Your future is limitless-as evidenced by this historic election.

Thanks for bringing up yet another reason why this election is monumental and groundbreaking!

Love you too!
Heather
